Traffic crashes — not volume — account for as much as 60 percent of all traffic delays on Interstate 70! A crash that takes 10 minutes to clear can delay traffic for up to an hour. If you’re in a minor crash where there are no injuries and drugs/alcohol are not involved, do the right thing and Move It! Learn more from CDOT's Move It! video.
Your Weekend Travel Forecast:
Spring Break is upon us and while I-70 sees lots of volume this time of year, traffic is more spread out between the week and weekend than usual. Traffic volume has not been significant on this weekend in the past three years but to be safe, plan to avoid the peak times outlined below. Weather shouldn’t be a travel factor this weekend.
Friday WB –In recent years there were only minimal delays due to volume between 3:30 and 5:00 p.m.
Saturday WB- Traffic delays are likely from 6:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m. Last year travelers experienced an extra 15 minutes of travel time (C470 to Frisco) with peak delays occurring around 8:00 a.m.
Saturday EB- While the volume of traffic is not expected to be significant, there could be some slowing during the 2:00-5:00 p.m. timeframe.
Sunday WB – Last year there were delays of 25 minute between 3:00-6:00 p.m. Check CDOT’s CoTrip.org or dial 511 to learn road conditions before you leave.
