MLK Weekend Expected to Bring Heavy Traffic on I-70

The Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend, Jan. 16–19, is expected to bring heavy traffic to the I-70 Mountain Corridor as travelers head west for one of the busiest ski weekends of the winter. Historically, MLK weekend sees high traffic volumes and drivers should be prepared for slower travel times and potential delays.

Whether you’re heading up for a long weekend or planning a day trip, a little planning can go a long way. The weekend travel forecast is available at GoI70.com/travel and is updated regularly to help travelers avoid peak congestion times. For real-time traffic conditions, road closures and weather updates, visit COtrip.org before you head out.

To help ease congestion on I-70, travelers are encouraged to take advantage of transit options when possible. Bustang and Snowstang will be running all weekend long, offering a stress-free alternative to driving. Riders can take advantage of a special MLK weekend promotion – use promo code 3DAY25 at checkout to receive 25% off Snowstang tickets. Skip the parking hassle and scroll your way to Arapahoe Basin, Breckenridge, Copper Mountain or Loveland Ski Area. Learn more about these and other transit options at GoI70.com/transit.

Consider creating a carpool to travel to the mountains! TreadShare is a carpool app that connects drivers and passengers heading in the same direction so they can share a route and split the associated costs.  Doing your part to reduce single-occupancy vehicles on the road pays off! It decreases congestion, reduces emissions, and leaves more money in your wallet. Download the TreadShare app and share the journey! Learn more about carpooling and carpool incentives at GoI70.com/carpool.

Throughout the winter, no matter the weekend, travelers should continue to plan their trips and check conditions before departing. Travel smart, plan ahead and enjoy your time in the mountains.
