As Labor Day weekend approaches, we want to remind motorists of the best ways to beat congestion on the I-70 mountain corridor.
- Ditch the car and travel using transit. Board Bustang or Pegasus at Denver Union Station or the Denver Federal Center in Lakewood to travel to many mountain towns along the I-70 mountain corridor. Once you’re there, use local transit to get around. Learn more at GoI70.com/transit.
- Carpool with friends or download the TreadShare app, which pairs riders with drivers to share the trip.
- Change your peak travel time. Last year, more than 34,000 vehicles traveled on westbound I-70 through the Eisenhower Johnson Memorial Tunnels. This year, make sure you’re on the road before noon on Friday, Sept. 1, to experience less congestion on westbound I-70. If you’re on your return trip via eastbound I-70, you can expect congestion on both Sunday, Sept. 3 and Monday, Sept. 4. For your smoothest trip, stay in the mountains for dinner and head home after 7 p.m.
