All Aboard the Winter Park Express: Expanded Service, Lower Fares, and More Fun

Calling all powder hounds, mountain adventurers and scenic ride enthusiasts—your train is ready to depart! The iconic Winter Park Express (WPE) is back for the 2025 winter season, and it’s rolling into the holidays and beyond with exciting updates that’ll make your trek to the slopes or the Fraser Valley a breeze. With expanded service, reduced fares and upgraded convenience, this ski train is your ticket to Colorado’s great outdoors.

What’s New This Year?
1. More Days, More Trips
Starting Friday, Dec. 20, 2024, the WPE will offer special holiday service for six days in December, ensuring you can glide into the new year with ease. Then, beginning Thursday, Jan. 9, 2025, the train will run five days a week, Thursdays through Mondays, through March 31. That’s a whopping 69 roundtrips this season—29 more than last year!

2. Lower Fares, More Savings
Tickets this season range between $19-39, slashing prices by 43% compared to previous years. Got kiddos? Children ages 2-12 can ride for 50% off base fares. Affordable family trips to the mountains have never been easier.

3. New Stops and Extra Space
For the first time, the train will stop in Fraser, five miles west of Winter Park, making it a convenient option for non-skiers and those visiting the Fraser Valley. Plus, the WPE now boasts two additional passenger cars, upping its capacity to 402 seats per trip.

Why Take the Train?
Leave behind bumper-to-bumper I-70 traffic and snowy mountain passes. The Winter Park Express offers a scenic, sustainable and stress-free alternative to driving. Hop aboard at Denver Union Station, sink into wide, reclining seats with panoramic Rocky Mountain views, and let the bi-level Sightseer Lounge wow you with its floor-to-ceiling windows. There’s even a café onboard for snacks and drinks.

Bringing gear? Skis and snowboards ride free of charge as carry-ons. With your morning coffee in hand and your gear stowed safely, you’ll arrive at Winter Park Resort by 9 a.m., ready to hit the slopes. Whether you’re a first-timer or a longtime fan, the WPE isn’t just transportation—it’s an experience. It’s also a step forward in meeting Colorado’s demand for sustainable transportation options along the Front Range.

How to Get Onboard
Tickets are available now through the Amtrak website or via the Amtrak app. The WPE departs Union Station at 7 a.m., with return trips leaving Winter Park Resort at 4:30 p.m. Grab your spot early—this season is shaping up to be the busiest yet.

So, whether you’re carving through fresh powder, exploring Fraser Valley’s charm, or simply soaking in the scenery, the WPE is your ride to an ultimate winter escape.
