Nearly one year ago, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) launched Pegasus, the state’s first express shuttle service. As Pegasus approaches its first anniversary, the service is experiencing steady ridership growth and service expansion. More than 12,000 passengers have used Pegasus since May 2022, and based on this growth, CDOT has increased the number of service days and added vans to their fleet to serve people commuting between Denver and Avon.
In September 2022, Pegasus expanded operating hours to seven days a week from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., with frequent departure times including up to 10 round trips on weekend days. Scheduling is easy with online bookings that allow you to plan your trip ahead of time, and there are discounted rates for children, senior and disabled passengers. Tickets range from $6 to $20 each way depending on the length of the trip. You can view the full schedule and purchase tickets online.
Pegasus departs year-round from Denver’s Union Station, with stops at the Denver Federal Center in Lakewood, Idaho Springs, Frisco, Vail and Avon. A Pegasus shuttle is wheelchair accessible, equipped with USB ports, power outlets and Wi-Fi. Each vehicle also has bike racks and ski/snowboard containers.
One fully booked Pegasus shuttle is the equivalent of removing six, two-person vehicles, helping to alleviate traffic congestion during peak travel times. And Pegasus can utilize the I-70 Mountain Express Lanes on weekends when traffic nearly doubles, helping expedite the trip. The service allows passengers to connect to local transit providers at each stop, making it easier than ever to get to the mountains car-free (and carefree).
